So ya...we've all got the Drake album whether we want to admit it or not. But why are some people ashamed to own it. It's because its a female influenced album. I aint mad at the dude though. He's made it, and seems that he will stop at nothing to make 'POPULAR' music. I just wished that Drake had held HIP-HOP a little closer to his heart. This is an R&B album...not a hip-hop album...which disappoints me. I know the ladies love to hear Drake's boring ass voice when he sings, but a lot of us don't. He shoulda came harder with the rhymes. The album is quite repetitive if you actually pay attention. He talks about the same ish, all damn day. "Ooh, I'm Drake...and my life changed so much since I got money." I'm just like..."nah son." But that's another story. As far as the music goes, it just seems like Drake could run circles around these other rap kids tryna make it, and take shots at some vets in the game, but I feel like he has settled and has become too comfortable with his current state and feels no need to impress us anymore. I keep the CD in my ride, and everyone who hasn't heard it always sees it and is like, "Ooh, you got that new Drake. Lemme hear that, I need to get that from you!" After hearing a couple songs, the reaction changes to more like, "nah son, you can hold on to that ish."
All in all, I'm a hip-hop fan. So this album is not for me. I loved So Far Gone, and all of Drake's previous work. I think he is truly talented, but I strongly believe that he's been hanging out with Wayne too much, and that his lifestyle will ultimately keep him from truly reaching his potential.
Oh yeah, final thought...J.Cole shits on Drake. Can't wait for his stuff to drop. J.Cole seems like he's still hungry, like he still has something to prove. Drake has lost that chip on his shoulder that he used to keep on his mixtapes. But only time will tell...
